In Relief Society Today....

...the teacher asked us to think for a second (and man that second was quick!) about what we were thankful for. She said it could be the first thing that popped into our heads, as random as we wanted it to be. Then she went around the room and asked us what it was. The first person said something like "The Book of Mormon," I was second and said "gelato." Then everyone else in the room (either taking their cue from the first person or much more serious and spiritual than me) said very grand things: personal revelation, gifts of the spirit, eternal families, etc... No one else went for random. No one else went for gelato.

Yeah, sure, I am thankful for all of the serious things, but I also like me some good gelato. So soft, so creamy, so much less fat than ice cream.

1. gelato
2. dinner with friends
3. going grocery shopping without the kids!

a girl after my own heart, I would've said ice cream or something similar!

I would have said a baby that sleeps :). Once somebody mentions something spiritual in church in answer to a question like that, where the answer is subjective, everyone seems to follow along. I've always wondered why.

There is almost nothing better than a real Italian gelato - except maybe a real French pastry, or exceptionally rich, dark, Swiss chocolate- Too bad I missed the lessons, I think I would have been thankful for something indulgent too...

I probably would have said "naps".

i'd have said sex. except that would probably start a scandal. so gelato would have been my 2nd choice. especially after Saturday. mmmm.

there are just so many things to be thankful for. why go with the obvious?!

I'm not a fan of the Sunday School Answers. I'm also not looking forward to attending RS again. Everyone keeps saying "hey! you get to go to RS again!" Yeah, dude, have you seen who's left in RS lately? All the fun people are in Primary and YW.
Crap. What does that make me now?

At least your answer was real. Sometimes I get so tired of the canned spiritual answers. Pick a,b,c, or d or if you are one of the all mighty take 20 minutes and say all of the above and include a story about one of your ancestors who happened to be closely associated with Joseph Smith. :)

(Can you tell I live in Utah?)

Hi Shellah! I'm Tori - I'm Leslie G's friend. I've heard your name a thousand times from Les. My husband is snoring and I can't sleep and you don't know me, but I am looking for good books on your blog. Ha. I am laughing soo hard at this entry. I distinctly remember being in a BYU ward and the teacher asking us what we were thankful for (Thanksgiving lesson.) It was snowing very hard that day and I answered honestly, "I'm thankful that it is my turn to be under the covered parking." I laughed and didn't think a thing about it, but then I saw the teacher's face. She looked horrified and then the rest of the class went on to answer with the typical religious answers. It was a bad moment for me. I'm happy to report that I am in the coolest ward now, 15 years later, and at least half the answers to every question are honest and silly and fun. I even made an acceptable comment on Sunday that included the random words, "Glow in the dark bowling." Your experience made me laugh!!
Just to make this even longer: if you are ever planning a trip to Rome; there is the most amazing coconut gelato in a place 3 blocks from the Vatican. My husband and I still claim it as the best food we've ever eaten!!! I am thankful for Gelato, also!!!! Wish there was more of it in Utah.
