Many years ago, I said there were three callings I never wanted to have.
The next year I was called as a stake missionary. The thing I hated most was that stupid name tag.
I got released as the Visiting Teaching coordinator about six months ago.
And I just got called to a new one, that involves this:
Go ahead, mock me. I'm mocking me too.

The scout shop sells cute little polos with a tiny cub logo on the chest. If your ward is stickler about leaders being in uniform, then go with that.
scoutstuff.org also has things like long sleeved T's with the cub scout logo. Much cooler than the see through yellow polyester with matching bandana.
And just so you know, the green Primary Handbook says scout uniforms are optional. So, NO you do not have to wear the shirt!
Good Luck,
A Cub POW of 5 years
ugh. good luck. not my dream calling by any means.
I have had a calling in scouts, twice! I don't tell my new Bishop about my experience in scouts because you'll forever be called into scouts again :P.
My oldest son just started scouts, I'm already shaking in my boots.
Besides primary chorister, that would be one of the worst callings! But, if it helps, Ethan has been doing scouts since we've been here and has yet to wear a uniform...he doesn't even own one. And, lucky you, there is that "I'm sorry, I'm moving" light at the end of the tunnel.
ohhh, BTDT. BTW I got my shirt off ebay for $5 instead of paying the $40 the scout store wanted.
I was essentially strong-armed into being a den mom last January, but no one has said boo about me having a uniform. I didn't know till this post that they even had them for MOMS (i've seen the male leader in uniform). So move here, we're chill! :-)
♥
fear fear and loathing of the yellow shirt- I should have volunteered to save myself from seminary teaching though
wow!! those are so um, cute? LOL I'd see about wearing a polo, if it were me.
I totally dread that calling too, and with 3 boys I don't think there's much chance I'll escape it. My other two nightmare callings are 1. Nursery and 2. Activities committee chair person. So far I've avoided all 3. But for how long???
I think you should bag the shirt, but definitely go with the coolots.
I have been in cubs for 2 years and there is no sign of release in sight. I rebelled and wont wear the shirt and refuse to get trained. One of the other leaders is a stickler, so I ruffle her feathers.
Thanks Kelly A. I am totally taking that tidbit of info with me to the next meeting.
Good Luck! It has not been my favorite calling. I hope you have a better experience
Ha ha ha ha! Want me to paint you a neckerchief slide?
Dang. Somebody took my comment idea. Yes, you have to wear the shirt but the culottes are optional.
You can also wear the khaki shirt with blue epaulet bands. I know you are excited to hear that.
Ugh. Even I know enough about fashion to know that those uniforms are awful. I would find a really cute yellow button-up shirt and wear that every week. Don't get the pants, no one looks good in the pants and please do not be tempted by that skirt. You could also get some better cut pants in the same colors somewhere, I'm sure (Old Navy comes to mind immediately). Then you could at least be in the right color scheme, but with better fashion sense. That is what I would do.
Of course I've said before that if I ever get called to scouts that the bishop is going to have to wait until I get a clear conformation before I'll take the calling, I'm not a big scouting fan. My plan is to offer my husband up as a sacrifice but suggesting they take him instead, he loved scouts growing up and would be a great leader.
Precisely why I will *never* speak, or write, my most dreaded callings. That should save me, right?
Totally take Char up on her bandana slide painting offer. That girl has some talent.
Two of your three are high on my own list of "never wants" but cub scout leader would be fun, I think. My oldest has such a good time each week, because his leader is interesting and committed. I don't think she wears the shirt, although, I appreciate it when women do. It makes it seem more...official, somehow. too bad they aren't cuter.
I think yellow is your color. :)
Walmart has an off-white, safari-style shirt for about $15 that works for me. And I'm sticking with my Lands End twills.:-)
I'm hoping that Steve will be doing all the scouting at our house. I'm a mom of girls- I don't know squat about 8 year old boys (except that they're nuts!)
