I think he's paying attention only selectively...

Isaac: Possums and bats are nocturnal.
Me: Where'd you learn that?
Isaac: At church.
Me: What else did you learn at church?
Isaac: Dogs sleep at night but cats sleep during the day.
Me: Yep, that's true. Do you learn about Jesus at church?
Isaac: Who's Jesus?

That's awesome!! I asked Annika one Sunday what she learned in church, she responded, 'my teacher was really hungry for doughnuts.' It was a fast Sunday actually.

My girls did have the I'm thankful for day and night lesson. It sounds like their lesson was a little more in depth than the sun and moon pics my kids brought home. Maybe they don't hit Jesus until CTR 5.

chuckle, chuckle, giggle giggle! My Son never tells me about what he learned in Sunbeams...apparently they only sing "wheels on the bus" and run on carpets. (I think he is recalling the nursery).

Today the subject was "I'm thankful for water" and when I asked what they learned about he said "fishes."

I love that last line. Better that you got that answer instead of the primary president.

I subbed in primary yesterday and realized that sometimes, they really don't learn anything. Sad.

I'm a sunbeam teacher. That conversation rings completely true to me; it's amazing what they retain (and what goes right over their restless heads). I was THRILLED to hear from one of the parents that her son realized and remembered that we use water as part of the sacrament.

Are you sure he didn't learn about nocturnal animals from Curious George?

I teach Sunbeams, too. I think all the kids in my class picked up about water was that we don't spit it at each other. Wait, that lesson went unheeded as well.
