Now that I'm not pregnant anymore, there are lots of things to be thankful for. Here's a qualified list of reasons why I'm glad I'm not pregnant anymore:
- I can run fast again. I went running yesterday and ran faster and farther than I had in months. But running while wearing a maxi pad is no fun.
- My bladder no longer wakes me up three or four times a night, begging to be emptied. Instead, my baby wakes me up three or four times a night begging to be filled.
- I no longer look like I have a large tumor in my belly. That belly now looks like a gigantic deflated balloon.
- Insomnia and I have parted ways. But her evil twin, narcolepsy, has taken her place.
- My mom came to visit after Maren arrived, which means that she's vacuuming and ironing for me. And also breaking the disposal and bleaching my favorite t-shirt.
- I can sleep on my stomach again....if I want to wake up in a pool of breastmilk.
- I don't have to go to church for at least a month (I don't think I have a negative qualifier for that one).
- I can zip up my jeans! But my muffin top (bread loaf) is so huge and jiggly that I can't bear to wear those jeans out of the house.
- Breastfeeding burns lots of calories. But eating all of the leftover Christmas cookies puts the weight right back on.
- I actually get to sit down during the day sometimes now that Maren is here. Usually that sitting takes place with one child attached to my boob and at least two more doing flips on the couch beside me.
Honestly, I'm having lots of fun with Maren. It makes me so sad to see her getting bigger and more alert before my very eyes. I love, love, love new babies. It's the ones who are no longer the new babies anymore that give me headaches.
