Book #84: Helen of Troy

Helen of Troy

Title: Helen of Troy

Author: Margaret George

A couple of weeks ago, I took this 500-page novel to the doctor's office. I was halfway through the book when I arrived, and I finished it while I was there and had to go to the gift shop in the lobby and buy a new book. It was not a good day for me and the doctor's office waiting room. Anyway, I think I have residual bad feelings towards the book because I was so annoyed to be kept waiting for so long. In fact, I really liked the first half of the book (when Helen is born and grows up in Sparta). But the war part of the novel dragged on like crazy! I had really liked George's novel about Mary Magdalene and this one was pretty similar in style, and I really liked the way she interwove the mortal characters and the gods (Helen is supposed to be the offspring of a mortal woman and Zeus). But I don't think George's story was engrossing enough to keep my mind off of the annoying situation I was in.
