Emma is a 22 year-old college graduate who moves to Miami in 1959 to make a name for herself as a journalist. Cuban refugees are streaming into the hotel she lives in and she finds herself learning about more than just crafting a good story.
Honestly, I read this book several weeks ago and it hasn't stuck with me much. I remember Godwin's descriptions of the food they ate and the clothes the refugees wore, but those have stayed with me a lot better than Emma's personal story.
