Out of the Closet

For the last fifteen months, the readers of my blog have either been friends I met online or people who stumbled across me in cyberspace. I take that back-- there have been a few people who "really" know me, like smartmama, and Courtney at "Five Under Five." But the people who really know me, you know, like my family, have been kept in the dark about the fact that I like to publish intimate details of my life on the internet. I mean, my mom knew vaguely about my "internet friends" but I don't think she knew the depths of my addiction.

She does now.

Yep, I've come out of the closet-- adding a blog link to my email signature meant that my sister and mom and godmother, and based on my mom's propensity to send large group emails to our friends and family when she has an interesting tidbit to share, probably everyone else who has known me since I was in diapers, now knows that I blog. Not that I'm embarrased or anything, but it has had me thinking a bit over the last few days.

My mom says she never knew that I was so funny or such a good writer. But will she still think I'm funny when I'm making fun of her? Will I still be comfortable talking about going to the gynecologist when I know that my dad might be reading? If my grandparents start reading, am I going to have to send them a dictionary of internet acronyms?

I'm glad that I'm out of the closet, and just like before, hope that I don't spend too much time thinking about who I'm writing for and just write. But Mom, one thing I do ask, if you read and like what you read, then you need to comment. I write for free, but it's the comments that keep me coming back for more.
