We have an open-door policy at our house. An open bathroom door policy, to be more specific. Unless we have company, no one at our house closes a bathroom door to do their business. I think I've mentioned that we had only one bathroom in the house I grew up in, and I've always been really open about peeing with other people around. When we got married, Eddie picked up the habit too.
Today Bryce came home from kindergarten with a note in his conduct folder saying, "He spied on and talked to a classmate who was using the bathroom." Stifling a giggle, I asked him about the folder. He said that the door was open, so he just went in and talked to her. He was upset when he got in trouble at school and said, "Are you sure you're not mad at me?"
No honey, I'm not mad at you. But I guess it's time for a policy change. Open-door is fine for preschoolers, but I guess elementary-age kids need to learn about the closed-door policy.
