Our dishwasher broke this week. Eddie spent two nights swearing at the ^&@*& thing, trying to fix it, and last night I went dishwasher shopping. We'll have the new one on Monday. But meanwhile, we're dishwasherless, except for me, of course. Being the dishwasher is a new thing for me-- we always had one growing up, and when we lived in our first apartment (BYU's Wymount Married Student Housing), Eddie decided my dishwashing skills were so abysmal that he would take over that task. But since I'm the one home all day now, dish duty falls to me this week. Last night I realized that if being without a dishwasher were a permanent situation for us, I'd think twice before making homemade macaroni and cheese and dirtying every dish in the house. I steered the kids away from making cookies this morning. We're using a lot of paper plates. It's not a big deal, really-- it's just, different.
So as I was musing over my dishpan hands, I started thinking about other things I didn't appreciate... until I didn't have them anymore. My list includes:
-A baby who will eat anything
-Perky boobs and an unstretchmarked stomach
-A fast computer
-Good knives
-Kids who sleep through the night
-The sense of freedom that comes from earning some money yourself
Add yours! I want to see what the rest of you miss when it's gone.
