Can't catch me!

Oh wait, Lei did. So here's my meme:

What do you like best about where you live?

I love that we're able to afford enough space to spread out in. In most parts of the country, we'd be a lot more cramped than we are in the great state of Texas. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and I definitely think that applies to the houses. We sold a house in Minnesota for about $15,000 less than what we paid for a house almost twice the size in Texas. Yeah, it's blissful-- just don't get me started on the property taxes, the heat, or the amphibians and reptiles that somehow find their ways into this huge cavern of a house.

On a more serious note, I love that my kids are growing up in a diverse middle-class neighborhood. Where I grew up (in Connecticut) it seemed like there were rich white people and poor people of color and not too much in between. Where Eddie grew up there were only white people. Maybe we'd find our neighborhoods different if we went back today, but I don't really think so. Bryce, our first grader, has 22 kids in his class in our neighborhood school. I think six or seven are African American, about that many again are Asian and white, and there are a handful of kids of hispanic origin. I love that he's growing up in an environment like this!

Is there anything strange about where you live?

Other than the name (Pearland)? I don't think a Pear tree could grow here without some serious help. A lot of people from other parts of the country would find it strange that between the months of June to September, you won't see anyone on the street between the hours of 7am-7pm. It's just too freaking hot.

What is one of your all-time favorite musical albums?

I'm a little bit embarrassed to admit this, but whenever I'm in the car without the kids, I'll crank Sunshine on Leith by the Proclaimers. It's old and sorta cheesy, but it really brings me back to my freshman year of college, which is the first year Eddie and I were dating. Those songs, for whatever reason, really put me in the mood...

Did you have a passion for something as a kid that you still have now?

It's pretty obvious from my blog that I love to read. I taught myself how to read when I was about four, and for the rest of my childhood, spent my days with my nose in a book, hiding from my parents when they wanted me to do chores. In fact, they used to have me do my brother and sister's chores while they sent them off to read. I didn't think it was fair then, and I still don't. But I took Annie to the library today and we got out the first book in the Little House on the Prairie series, and I hope I'm going to be raising a little girl who falls asleep reading every night just like I do.

What do you like most about having a blog?

I'm a shameless exhibitionist, but these days as a SAHM I don't have a lot of people to exhibition myself off to, so I do it in the blog. I also like comments. I really, really like comments.

Tagging-- Nicole (Nic's Notes), Angela (Dancing Without Rhythm) and Sheri (Pants Optional). If you've already done this meme, consider yourself exempt, I haven't been up on my bloglines lately!
