Book #35: The Undomestic Goddess
Title: The Undomestic Goddess
Author: Sophie Kinsella
This is the kind of book that I love reading from time to time, but I'm slightly embarrassed about reviewing on my blog. I mean, it's the kind of book that I don't take out of the house with me. In fact, I'd never need to take it out of the house, since it's so light and fluffy that I read all 384 pages in a single morning (when the kids woke up too early and Eddie sent me back to bed after breakfast so no one else had to look at my greenness). It's the perfect kind of escapist fiction to read when you're not feeling well. A light, fun, airy story about a 29-year-old lawyer who makes a big mistake on the eve of becoming a partner in her London law firm and escapes the city, stumbling into a home in the countryside to ask for an asprin and a glass of water. The owners mistake her for someone applying to be their housekeeper and she takes the job. Of course she she knows nothing about cooking and cleaning. Of course she later learns that she was set up. And of course there's a hunky gardener to keep things interesting.
The Undomestic Goddess is a perfect beach read-- but if it were me reading it at the beach I'd be hiding the title in a paper bag.
