Book #12: Housekeeping
Title: Housekeeping
Author: Marilynne Robinson
On the back of this novel, there's a blurb by Dorris Lessing. She says, "I found myself reading slowly, then more slowly-- this is not a novel to be hurried through, every sentence is a delight."
I don't read slowly. I read quickly. That's how I've read twelve books in the last two months. The book has a very poetic feel, and I know that in the right frame of mind or the right situation, it's a book I could have loved. I expected to like it more than I did, in the section on Amazon where it tells you what other people who bought this book also bought, the books listed were some of my favorites (Kite Runner, and Saturday by Ian McEwan) but I just wasn't willing to take the time to read this one slowly and appreciate Ruth as she decends into mental illness and a transient's life.
